Huelva - Where Olivia Lives

We arrived in Huelva in the early evening on Monday, and immediately loved this little town, which is the capital of the Andalusian province by the same name.  You can see on the map that it is in the southern most part of Spain, about a 20 minutes bus ride from the beach (Atlantic Ocean), and just a short distance from the Portuguese border.

This map (made from tiles) of the province of Huelva is at the Plaza de Espana in Seville.

This is Olivia's flat!  Hers is the top balcony in the center.  I was happy to see that the door to the building stays locked.  And this is her mailbox.  If you want to send her some mail before she comes home, her address is:

Calle Rico 7 3b
21001 Huelva
HUELVA, SPAIN

This is what the inside of Olivia's apartment looks like.

Where We Stayed

Olivia met five wonderful friends when she first arrived in Huelva -- Jane, Jess, Ilaria, Miriam, and Rachel.  Jane and Jess live on the 10th floor of their apartment building, and Ilaria, Miriam, and Rachel live in the apartment under them on the 9th floor.  They were traveling while we were in Spain,  and offered their apartments to us.  We ended up in the 9th floor apartment, and Olivia stayed with us.  Thank you, wonderful friends!!

The Market - Where Olivia Shops

Huelva has an amazing market that is open most days until 2:00.  There are stalls for fruits and vegetables and fish and meat and bread and cheese and flowers and plants and anything else you can think of!  The sights and smells were incredible.  We went our first morning in Huelva and bought strawberries, fresh bread, and goat cheese to take with us as we headed to Seville.  Perfect picnic!  We didn't have much time to look and shop, but were excited because we knew we could go there again on Thursday.  Much to our dismay, EVERYthing in Huelva was closed that day for Maundy Thursday.  More about Semana Santa (Holy Week) later.

So much stuff.  So little time.
