We walked. And walked. And walked!
When we couldn't walk, we took the tram. The vintage yellow trams in Lisbon run on tracks powered by overhead cables, and they are DELIGHTFUL. They go all up and down those narrow little streets, and can take you about anywhere you want to go. They are featured on postcards and paintings everywhere, and I wish I had at least bought a post card!
Our least favorite way to get around was the BUS. It tended to be a little more crowded, and we had to stand up a lot and hold on for dear life! Plus, the buses didn't always show up on time. And as one of Olivia's friends said, they smelled of "humanity". Caroline decided that keeping the sun off while we waited and waited for the bus (at the Moorish Castle) was more important than making a fashion statement. I thought she blended in rather well!
Tim, Caroline, and Olivia became experts at reading the bus stop signs and maps of every description. (The map that wasn't oriented North did give them a few problems.)
I didn't even try--not my strong suit.
